The Common Reading program, an initiative of the Emory Integrity Project, is an opportunity for all incoming, first-year students to engage in meaningful conversation through a community narrative. Over the summer, it is strongly encouraged that you read the selected text in order to prepare for discussions in your residence hall, academic courses, and student groups. This year’s selected text is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

The wriring of this classic text will mark its 200th anniversary during the upcoming academic year.  Throughout the next year, several events and opportunities to engage in this text will be available across campus, as students explore the ethical implications of key themes, such as otherness, dangerous knowledge, and societal isolation and injustice.
